Biologists from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recently completed fall electrofishing and spring gill net surveys on Possum Kingdom Reservoir. Striped bass populations are at their highest in 14 years.

The striped bass sampled were found to be in good body condition with lengths ranging from 8 to 30 inches and many of legal length 18 inches and above.

The largemouth bass population was also up with plenty of bass under the legal length.

Blue catfish catch rate was the second highest observed in the reservoir with many in the 12-inch minimum length.

Bluegill, white bass, and channel catfish population numbers were at their average historical populations. Channel catfish caught ranged from 6 to 23 inches.

Populations of prey fish such as gizzard shad were also found to be near historical averages. Threadfin shad also found in decent numbers.
