LAKE COUNTRY SUN REPORT

The Brazos River Authority has installed a new, temporary ramp at Possum Kingdom Lake’s West Side Park, across the reservoir from BRA’s other public use areas.
The new ramp restores boat access to the park for the first time since the permanent ramp was closed due to low water levels from the drought. The now-open temporary ramp is covered by 4 feet of water at its end.
West Side Park is also accessible by land via FM 1148 near Elm Creek. In addition, the park features a courtesy dock, which sits in water more than 7-feet deep, as well as camping and picnic sites and a hiking trail. Rest room facilities are closed for the winter to prevent pipes from freezing
With the ramp’s opening, BRA has four public boat ramps in operation at its PK public areas. The other ramps are available at the North D&D, South D&D and Scenic Cove public areas. Another ramp, the Public Low Water Ramp off FM 2951, remains closed while it undergoes renovations. For updated boat ramp conditions at PK as well as lakes Limestone and Granbury, visit www.brazos.org.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 21)

FAIR. Water stained; 75 degrees; 0.09 feet below pool. Expect a slow striped bass bite until the water settles. Sand bass are slow to fair when you can find clear water. Use small white, silver or chrome slabs in 15-25 feet of water. Catfish are good fishing cut shad off the bottom in 2-10 feet of water. Baited holes are your best bet to catch numbers on punch bait. Bait with cattle cubes and wait 2-3 hours before fishing. The water temperature is steady at 70-74 degrees, and will continue to rise with warmer weather. Water clarity continues to be less than 1 foot of visibility. The mud line continues all the way down the lake to the dam, and will likely take a few weeks to clear. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service. As we enjoy a weekend of fishing we salute and honor our Nation’s heroes this Memorial Day. Anticipate increased recreational boater traffic this weekend.
