Hell's Gate Rising

Hell's Gate Rising

Like some creature from the deep, Hell's Gate appears to be rising from the waters of PK.

Possum Kingdom Lake has been home for the last 15 years and has been part of my life long before that. We moved to the lake from a life in the Air Force to help take care of the ranch and Gaines Bend in 1999. My husband and I are currently the owners/managers of Gaines Bend. Gaines Bend and the surrounding area has been in my husband's family since 1859. We raised our two daughters here and wake up every morning to a view of the most amazing lake in the state of Texas, Possum Kingdom Lake.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Sep. 4)

GOOD. Water stained; 87 degrees; 1.47 feet below pool. Striped bass are fair with live bait putting fish in the boat every trip. Downriggers are very slow, as well as any kind of artificial bait. Look for fish in 30-50 feet of water, but be willing to try several spots out because fish are moving fast and not staying in one spot long. Sand bass are still slow in 10-20 feet of water. Use live shad or small white and silver slabs and jigs or rattle traps. Cast to the fish to keep from spooking them out of the area. Catfish are fair fishing cut shad or punch bait near or off the bottom in 20-30 feet of water. Water clarity is steady at 6-12 feet of visibility. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service. Bass are scattered on ledges, points, and deep timber hitting crankbaits, Carolina rigs, dropshots. Report by JK Outdoors Bass Fishing Guide.
