Zebra Mussel status updated on two lakes

Zebra Mussel status updated on two lakes

Two central Texas lakes have received upgraded classifications for invasive zebra mussels as a result of statewide sampling by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries staff and partner agencies. Lake Austin’s classification has been upgraded to infested,
Lady Bird Lake has been upgraded to suspect, meaning zebra mussels or their larvae have been found at least once

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 28)

FAIR. Water stained; 78 degrees; 0.19 feet above pool. Stripers continue to be slow and live bait is your best bet or something that makes lots of noise like a rattletrap. Expect the bite to remain slow due to the muddy water. Sand bass are fair to slow in 15-25 feet of water on main lake points with small slabs, white and silver are both good colors. Some can be caught on chrome. Catfish are good in 2-10 feet of water with cut shad off the bottom. Baited holes are your best bet to catch numbers, but will not produce big fish. Bait with cattle cubes and wait 2-3 hours before fishing. Use punch bait for best results on baited holes. Water clarity is less than 1 foot on the north end, but the south end is slightly better but still heavily stained. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service.
